The Postcard Plays are tiny explosions of theatricality in a 4 by 6 inch space.
We dared playwrights to explore the full potential of how a play can live on a page, calling them to, "Think of those foot patterns they use in ballroom dance lessons. Think of that really entrancing wallpaper above your childhood bed. We are looking for potential plays that invite the "reader" to examine them; to turn them this way and that; to stage them just to figure out what they're about."
After selecting the plays from a crop of fascinating submissions, we hired Seattle's Girlie Press to print them, and sent the series of 8 limited-edition color Postcard Plays to our mailing list starting in spring 2006. The Empty Space theater in Seattle co-produced the plays with us that June, hiring local directors and a choreographer to interpret the enigmatic pages.
The Postcard Plays are on hiatus for now, but get in touch if you'd like to bring them to your town or school!
